Flooded forest of riparian black ash
by Alexandre Florent Nolin, University of Québec, Canada
This picture was taken in June 2019 on the shores of Lake Duparquet in sub-arctic Quebec (Canada). This illustrates the resilience of black ash (Fraxinus nigra Marsh.) trees to periodical flooding. The width and cell-anatomy of their rings can provide snapshots of past flooding activity in the boreal mixed-wood forest. (alexandreflorent.nolin@uqat.ca)
