One drop at a time - summer melting of sea ice
by Maria Scheel, Aarhus University, Roskilde, Denmark
After a week of fog, a day of sunshine in Kuujjuarapik, Hudson Bay, Quebec, Canada lets the sea ice melt drop by drop. As beautiful as the scene in illuminated by the sun and accompanied by the dripping sounds along the beach, it also stands as a metaphor for the dwindling Arctic sea ice extent, reaching new lows year by year.
