Stone structures for soil erosion control
by Antonio Jordán, University of Seville, Sevilla, Spain
A gabion consist of a box made of wicker, stainless steel wire mesh or galvanized iron and filled with stone or earth material. Gabions are artificial structures used for soil erosion control (they are permeable to water, but retain sediments). They are simple to manufacture and install and blend easily into the landscape.
Diana (1.70 m) serves as a size reference on this rural road in the Sierra Norte (Seville, SW Spain).
