Walking on uneven ground: in the middle of a lava flow, Valle del Bove, Etna
by Anne Sturm, Heidelberg University, Heidelberg, Germany
Young lava flows forming rocky sculptures, somewhere in the middle of Valle del Bove on the SE flank of Etna volcano, during the thrilling period of weekly paroxysms in summer 2021. Hours of hiking on these rough lava flows to find ideal locations for placing sampling containers to get fresh tephras. Then? Waiting some days for the next eruptive sequence and collecting the samples!
