Volcano Copahue and Callaqui - Southern Andes
View high above the crater lake of Copahue volcano looking southwest towards the snow covered peak of Volcano Callaqui in the Patagonian Andes. The view along the apparent line takes us from the crater lake of Copahue along a chain of historic crater now covered by snow and ash towards the summit of Callaqui in the distance. Due to the oblique subduction of the Nazca plate below the South American plate NE-SW trending lineaments crosscut the Andes in this region. These lineaments favor the accent of magma which is reflected by Volcanos Lined up as a string of pearls along these lineaments.
