Everest and Lhotse at sunset
by Ann Rowan
Sunset lingers for several minutes on the highest mountain in the world. Behind the Lhotse wall is the highest glacier, Khumbu Glacier, which is rapidly losing mass in response to climate change. The interaction of extreme Himalayan topography with the atmosphere results in high spatial variability in glacier behaviour across the range.
