Salt precipitation after a walk near the Great Salt Lake
by Jennifer Ziesch, State Authority for Mining, Energy and Geology, Hannover, Germany
The soil around the Great Salt Lake (Utah) is full of minerals. Most of the salt is dissolved in the lake and deposited in the desert flats around it. The photo of the footprint was taken very near to the lake. It reflects the high salinity which is caused by high evaporation.
