
Fractured lake ice with small gas bubbles

The thermokarst lakes on Samoylov Island in the Lena River Delta are in winter covered by about 1.5m of ice. This ice is highly fractured and contains numerous gas bubbles, mainly methane. The area covers about 1m by 1m.
